Background:

To support the widening participation agenda across multi-industry sectors, 1Qual was initiated in 2018 to support an increase in opportunities for Employers to further meet workforce development objectives, through seeing more existing staff having the opportunity to engage with Nationally Accredited Functional Skills  Maths & English Qualifications. Initiated through a collaboration of Health Education England, Higher Education Institutes and an Ofsted registered Grade 2 Registered Training Provider, JM Excellence in Training, 1Qual evolved to offer a variety of qualification completion pathways with a heightened focus on flexibility.

Although 1Qual has supported an abundance of learners to successfully achieve their required qualifications, the 20/21 academic year has taught us that our services now meet the needs of our Employer partners, new and existing learners in other ways, such as bespoke and contextualised Maths and English training for Apprentices/NHS staff, UG/PG students and individuals across local communities. As a result, the decision was made to change our name as we move into the 21/22 academic year and we will now be known as M&E Excellence, specialists in Maths and English Training. As an Organisation focusing on a niche area of Apprenticeships, barriers to CPD and often deterrents to entering into Further Education, we feel M&E Excellence offers a true reflection of the various services and training pathways we now offer in these core subject areas.

  • Learners able to seek support from assigned weekly tutorial slots and ‘keep in touch’ 1-2-1 sessions when needed for topic clarification or exam anxiety support
  • Provides a robust solution for Higher Education Institutes and Employer providers to meet recruitment objectives through being able to accept new learners on to Apprenticeship programmes who require a Level 2 equivalent in Maths and English

M&E Excellence offer multiple completion pathways for Functional Skills qualifications & Tailored Training to ensure there is a learning approach which meets the needs of all Higher Education, NHS & Business Apprentices, Staff & Managers within our partner Organisations. 

 

How it Works:

Initiative is operationalised through forming a working partnership with Ofsted Grade 2 Training provider, JM Excellence in Training. The following points provide an outline of how staff & Employers engage with M&E Excellence courses:

  • Partner NHS Trust, HE/FE Apprenticeship Provider or Employer having an initial discussion with a M&E Excellence Account Manager to ensure bespoke provision can be created if needed and to meet the needs of each partner Organisation
  • Employers / staff complete the M&E Excellence learner data record to inform the provider of all core details
  • Staff looking to complete their courses complete a learner questionnaire
  • Upon completion of the questionnaire, each learner receives an online induction for a course overview and to discuss agreed course start dates and tutorial time slots which best align with existing shift patterns

One of the following qualification completion pathways is offered to each learner based on their existing skill set and individual needs:

  • Tutor-lead online provision of Functional Skills

    • Learners able to attend their allocated tutorial or ‘keep in touch’ session with their tutor at any location and through logging in to their online M&E Excellence account on any device (smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop PC)
    • Learners able to seek support from assigned weekly tutorial slots and ‘keep in touch’ 1-2-1 sessions when needed for topic clarification or exam anxiety support
  • Self-directed Functional Skills Qualifications

                          ‘I Need Mine Campaign’

  • Targeting staff who have an existing skill set to complete a self-directed course
  • Flexible and timely completion of self-directed Functional Skills courses
  • Opportunity for NHS staff who may have the required ability in Maths and English to acquire the certification required to evidence their Level 2 qualifications without completing a fully taught course – response to the ‘I need my certificate to get a place on my chosen Apprenticeship’ issue
  • Access to guided learning modules and progress monitoring mock exam activities
  • Complimentary access to Functional Skills learning tools such as BKSB as well as M&E Excellence learning modules tailored to the Accredited Functional Skills examination all learners will sit upon completion
  • Offers awarding body registration and examination preparation sessions delivered live by M&E Excellence tutor experts
  • Offers Speaking, Listening and Communication support for FS English
